Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on her first screen kiss

She's arguably the most famous Bollywood actress in the world, who has also been doing her best to forge a career for herself in Western cinema.

But one thing Aishwarya Rai still struggles with is the public displays of affection so commonly seen on the silver screen.

The 39-year-old actress had her first screen kiss with actor Hrithik Roshan in Dhoom 2 in 2006, but admits she is still less than comfortable with the prospect of such intimate scenes.

After “Heroine”, his “most ambitious project”, was put on the backburner indefinitely following the news of his lead actress Aishwarya Rai’s pregnancy, acclaimed filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar says he went into depression and that he’s upset that the “truth was hidden” from him.
“This decision of pulling the plug had a devasting effect on me … It was like an avalanche collapsing on me… I was in a state of total shock and depression,” Bhandarkar posted on his blog Tuesday.
The filmmaker, who has given hits like “Page 3″, “Chandni Bar” and “Fashion”, remained silent so far, ever since producers UTV took the decision to stall the movie for the sake of Aishwarya’s health.

Bhandarkar blames Aishwarya Rai for hiding her pregnancy

Heroine was just a few days into the shooting when the news of its lead actress Aishwarya Rai’s pregnancy broke out. It’s unlikely that Aishwarya had no inkling of her impending maternity when the film went on the floors on June 7. After all, she’s believed to be four months pregnant now. Not just that, Madhur came to know about Aishwarya’s pregnancy not from her, but from the media.

Speaking to a tabloid, Madhur says he was shocked to learn of Aishwarya’s pregnancy, because she might have been injured during the days she shot for the film. Moreover, he says there was enough time between the announcing of the film at Cannes on May 13 and the commencing of the principal shoot in June that if Aishwarya had informed them of her pregnancy they would not have begun the shoot at all.

“The entire event would not have taken place if at the beginning the actress had informed of an impending maternity. The truth was hidden from us,” Bhandarkar is quoted to have told Mid-day.

Amitabh Bachchan defends Aishwarya against Bhandarkar’s tirade

Bhandarkar laid the blame squarely on Aishwarya Rai, her doting Pa-in-law Amitabh Bachchan has jumped to her defence and claimed that pregnancy is a personal issue for any actor.

“Everybody knew that Aishwarya was married when she signed the film. So you mean to say that actors can’t get married or have children? I don’t think this can be a part of any contract that you cannot get married or have children if you working in a project,” Bachchan is quoted as saying by DNA.

As for the production house UTV suffering losses, Bachchan said that he too has worked in a UTV film ‘Shoebite’ and invested his time in the project. But the film is far from releasing.

Heroine was 10 days into the making when the news of Aishwarya’s pregnancy broke out. Director Bhandarkar and producer Ronnie Screwvala were left with no option but to shelve the film.

Have Aishwarya and Madhur made the peace?

Bhandarkar recently broke his silence with a tirade in which he put the blame on Aishwarya Rai for hiding her pregnancy from him. In response, Amitabh Bachchan had jumped to Aishwarya’s defence and claimed that actors have the right to get married and have children whenever they wish.

Now Amitabh Bachchan claims that Aishwarya and Madhur have sorted out their issues.

While promoting his film Bbuddah - Hoga Terra Baap when Amitabh Bachchan was asked to comment on the strained equation between Bhadarkar and Ash, he said: “When I was asked (previously) what I have to say, I had said that they (Aishwarya and Bhandarkar) would sort it out, and in fact they have sorted it out... (But) if some person expresses his feelings about it he has the right to do it. And then others will also express their feelings on the issue and this way whatever is the truth, will come out,” Bachchan said in a matter-of-factly way.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Pregnant

After four years of marriage, we were wondering when we would get the news of Abhishek and Aishwaya Rai Bachchan starting a family. And it has finally happened. Late last night, father in law, Amitabh Bachchan tweeted, “T 410 -NEWS NEWS NEWS !! I AM GOING TO BECOME A GRANDFATHER .. AISHWARYA EXPECTING .. SO HAPPY AND THRILLED !!!”
Ash has reportedly been gaining weight for the past few months but critics shunned it away stating it was for a new look in her upcoming film Heroine, directed by Madhur Bhandarkar. However, Big Big confirmed otherwise with his tweet.
This is not the first time, Bollywood has seen an actress  get pregnant at her prime. Actress Kajol was expecting when she was a big hit in the industry. Other actress who have sacrificed their acting career to start a family are Karisma Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Nargis, Neetu Singh, Jaya Bachchan and  Dimple Kapadia. Lucky for us, we witnessed the come back of many of these actresses, some still as lead actresses while others graduated to playing bhabhis or mothers.
